sadly im gonna run sli setup of the 6600gt's..

want to get 6800gt but too expensive.. so i will go cheaper..

i gotta think its not the best card but it does real good .. so two will run nicely..

and to get a sli setup for under 400 ..compared to one 6800gt..

i'll go the cheaper route. can always get the 6800gt's in the future once these dont perform well.. but i think it will be quite some time !!

I actually have a x800XL on pre-order with ATI. But that doesn't look like its going to appear anytime soon. That was actualy my fall back plan because I figured I wouldn't run a 2x6800GT set-up until prices came down to a sane level. Since the pre-ordered x800XL may be months away I may have to go with plan "C", a single 6600 or even (gasp) a (choke) a ... 5200. Gaming will be just as good looking at blobs of color at 640x480 right?

i'm in the exact shoe as you are, extreme barton!
right now, in my old system i have an ati 9700 pro, still runs games nicely. Do you think if i go sli and 2-6600 gt's would they perform better than my agp 9700 pro?

They would perform h*ll-of-alot better then your 9700 Pro. I'll get my DFI NF4 SLI-DR at next week, and I planned to buy 2x XFX 6600GT.

Just ordered my DFI NF4 from newegg. I already have my 6800GT PCI-E waiting at home.

Check the comparision chart in that link and you can make a better decision for yourself.

Yes, everyone is overcharging the 6800GT PCI-E version. I got mine at $435 from monarchcomputer.com at 6am last Saturday. I woke up early, can't go to sleep, and start surfing around. I know it's still $35 over retail, but thats the best price I can find. But my card also comes with a full version of Far Cry, which I dont have, so that kind of makes up for the $35 extra.

well, if you're talking about the plain/regular X700 (non-pro) then the 6600GT will win. If you're referring to the X700pro (128mb or 256mb) then its a close call but the 6600GT I believe runs a little cooler than the X700pro so thats always a plus (less noise and more overclocking potential.

But yeah, also check out that PCI-Express comparison chart too

OVERALL, I think the 6600GT is a nicer card than the X700pro; just my opinion.

I see you have the PC P&C SLI psu eh.

For me it's the waiting game. I'm just hoping ATI pulls the X800XL outta their ..... soon. Plus the Venices.

i checked out the X800XL they said it is a pci-e card but on top of it i did not see a bridge connector like on the 6600 or 6800 gt's.

The bridge connectors are only used on nVidia cards. ATI doesn't support the SLi.

in case you didn't talk about the sli bridge connector, but about the pci-express brigde: the x800xl is a native pci express card and doesn't need a bridge.

NO you can only use one ATI card or two Nvidia cards. Becuase the hardware is only designed to work with Nvidia cards however eventually ATI might do SLI to.

You CANNOT run dual vid cards with ATI cards. The only thing that can run dual ATI vid cards is from Alienware, and I think they call it the video array. But I heard it was unstable.

SLI is ONLY for Nvidia PCI-Express cards. Nvidia call this operation SLI mode. Currently, ATI DO NOT have this capability. ATI may come up with something like this later, and may give it a different name.
