The 'What is Your Web Host' Thread

I don't know if this has existed before in a time long long ago but maybe this can be the Official What is Your Web Host Thread. Since I am getting webspace and a domain name I need to basically survey the OCforums.com members. Please help me out and comment on your web host.

What web host do you use? Your satisfaction? Customer Service? And a link to the hosts website. Where did you register your domain name? Link? Other comments are welcomed.

I use godaddy to register my domain names and I have a buddy from the forums who lets me have some space on his server

My host? Why the computer I sit in front of and use every day silly!

It's cheap (ie: no additional cost since you're already paying for the net connection), and fairly simple to set up. You don't even need a particularly beefy system in any way to host it (assuming that the data is static... a database driven site may need a little more horsepower under the hood). The worst part is that most ISPs don't have much in the way of upload bandwidth. The 100KB/sec I have isn't much for upload, but it's aparently sufficient enough for me to still recieve 15GB/mo of trafic....

Just make sure that if you go the "home based" route that your ISP does not prohibit the use of personal web servers!!

Personally I use www.fuitadnet.com

I used to recomend them but now I don't... their great and cheap as long as your not running something that's crititcal on support. Sometimes it can take a few days and lots of pressure to the techs to get a problem on the server fixed.

What web host do you use? Globat.com

Your satisfaction? Its ok. Lacking some features of better sites, but VERY inexpensive. Allows full use of apache mods/apps, and full 24/7 access to the computer. Price to space/transfer ratio is very good. They are the cheapest out there. In the two years I have been hosting with them, my site has only gone down once, and that was only for 5 minutes.

Customer Service? Decent, if you call them. They dont respond to any other form of communication. They have free 24/7 tech support though, so it isnt too hard.

And a link to the hosts website. www.Globat.com

Where did you register your domain name? globat.com

Link? globat.com

Other comments are welcomed.

I use the free service from Tripod.
Whenever I get it setup (and make sure it okay to do so) I will be using my own server, using dyndns.org. It should have decent customer service (at least I hope).

Can anyone here post their home site? I would like to see some connection speeds.

Here is mine hosted at Globat.com. It is pretty crappy, but you can get an idea of speed for movies and images.

I use www.phad.net I know the owner, FANTASTIC guy, he is talking of upgrading his servers this summer yet again,

BUT I may be jumping ship, I found a "newish" company 1.5 years old which gives unlimited tansfer, and unlimited size for 15 dollars a year, I e-mailed them for details and compared them to phad.net, they will give me more for less, all emails were responded to with in 24 hours, 2 of which were responded too with in 8 hours.

If I jump ship and can give details about the company I will but I don't want to recomend a possible scam so I have to check it out first

EDIT:
PS website is www.derusett.com nothing there, www.derusett.com/forum some stuff but again just a simple forum I play with, mainly I host images, and play around with php/mySQL

if google gets into webhosting and they allow the gmail software as the e-mail service I would jump ship to them, I like how gmail is set up, much nicer then the free e-mail clients other webhosts offer

Google will not be selling off domain name and webspace anytime soon. They made the contract with I-CANN so they, themselves do not have to pay so much for their corporate domain names.

PS: deRusett which web host does the $15/year thing?

I have the free 100webspace.com account It used to be nice with out any ads and it gave you 1gb transfer and 100mb of space but then they put the ad on the top and now offer 3gb transfer.Their support is very good. I still don't really care for the ad at the top of the page now.
