nVidia Firewall or Norton Internet Security (or similar)?

Im thinking of switching to the hardware NVfirewall that come with my nForce 4 and uninstalling Norton so that it will hopefully do its advertised job of saving CPU cycles while keeping my comp secure. Does the firewall really do its job well?

Works fine for me, though I had trouble with one of the MS security updates messing up both firewall and active armor.

I wonder how your NF3 firewall compares with the NF4...Isnt the NF3 purely software?

Yep that's how I understand it. The nF3 doesn't have active armor. I was referring to the DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D that I'm using right now. Haven't updated my sig yet. The nF3 & nF4 firewalls seem to work about the same though, with the exception of active armor of course.

Ultra-D/SLI convert that is.

mmmm, did nvidia "make" this firewall from scratch or is their a 3rd party company that provided the base for it?

persinally i would not trust a mobo / vid card maker to security - as opposed to a company that does just that for a living.

Seems to work fine. I've done security checks on the nF3 ultra's firewall and it came out 100% clean with the exception of not stealthing all the ports. This was on the default medium security setting though. Ran it that way for a couple months with no problems. The firewall doesn't interfere with LAN trafic the way NIS, Kapersky, and Panda do. There's absolutely no setup required to share my cable connection with the other 4 systems on my Gb LAN. Saves all the hassle of having to configure all the IP ports for LAN games and shared Inet. The software is apache HTTP based. The CPU usage of the nF3 ultra's firewall was virtually non-existant and it's supposed to be even lower on the nF4 though I haven't really checked that out yet.

I'll have to run some security tests with teh nF4 firewall + AA implementation. Anyone have any preferred sites for this? I'll have to dig up the link to the one I tested the nF3 ultra on.

Oops I said that wrong. The nF3 ultra DID stealth all the ports but failed the ping reply test(ICMP) echo test with default(medium) settings. Running the same tests on the nF4 w/ AA enabled resulted in precisely the same result. This from grc.com(shields up):

So, how is this intergrated software affected by overclocking ? or is it not at all...

Doesn't seem to be affected at all by HT speeds. I tested the Neo2 up to 325, though briefly, and it was fine. I booted the Ultra-D at 350x6 and the LAN connection and firewall seemed to function fine. I've seen some guys complaining about the latest ethernet driver, the one in 6.39, but it hasn't given me any trouble.

It's a hardware & software solution as I understand it. I noticed there's a Vitesse chip parked between the s939 & the LAN ports on the DFI nF4s, I don't believe this chip is on the nF3 ultra. I presume it has something to do with the firewall/AA. I'll have to read up on this more.
