Red face Having MAJOR issues with my NF4 Ultra-D

hey guys if you can spare a moment I really need some help, just got my ultra-D set up today. parts list:

a64 3500+ winnie (prime stable 2.75ghz tested on 2 other mobo's)
xp-90 / arctic silver / panaflo 90mm
2gigs of gigaRAM pc3500 (2x1gb) in slots 2+4 (orange)
bios 0125 (yes I have also tried 0209 beta)
Fortron blue storm AX500a power supply
2x maxtor SATA-II in raid0 on sata 1+2
MSI gf6600gt pci-e (stock)

so I am having major problems with this thing-- first I got a BSOD every time I tried to install windows, right after it finished the "dos" part of copying files, then it reboots and a couple of seconds after the XP logo appeared, I would get an immediate BSOD (stop 0x0000007e). I finally got past this by upping my VDIMM to 2.7v.

now my problem is I cannot seem to get stable (Prime, Memtest, 3dmark etc) above around 240 FSB. My "target" oc which was working 24hrs Prime stable on my MSI K8N Neo4 (before it died on me) was:

270fsb x 3 LDT x 10multi x 5:6 Memclk = 2.7ghz, ram @ 225mhz ... this is my ideal because I think my ram is only stable to around 234mhz. Ram was running fine at 3-3-3-10.

Now I can only get stable running 245fsb x 11 at a 5:6 with all DRAM settings on "auto". 270x10 fails in Prime and Memtest for me. Also weird is that ClockGen and CPU-Z reports that my RAM is at 192mhz when according to my calcs it should be 204mhz (245 x 5:6 = 204 doesnt it?????) I have tried giving more juice (1.6v chipset, 1.3LDT, cpu has 1.575, ram to 2.9 etc etc)

I am so confused here is it possible this DFI just stinks or is a dud and wont go past ~240?? I see many peeps on here with 300+ fsb's so ...??? even my budget cheap chaintech VNF4 was prime stable to 267fsb or so....

please help I am at the end of my rope with this! is there something simple Im overlooking? thanks

First of all...clock gen will dethrottle the CPU when hitting high loads like Intel's...so if using clock gen to OC this could be one reason for the lower SDRAM Mhz...

Have you tested your memory by running memtest86 to rule out the memory...dont think just because its new its not the issue ...

Run memtest at default settings and then at the settings you had the CPU in the other system and see if any errors are being created...if none...then start looking at the PSU...use a MM to test the voltages...and also might think about possible the CPU might of been harmed when then other MB went out...if this is the same CPU...

no I am not using clockgen to oc-- I am doing it all thru the BIOS. I have CPU throttling disabled in the BIOS as well.

Memtest fails (usually test #5 is the worst) almost everything I throw at it. The one stable setting I had found was 11x245x5:6 for some reason is stable. But thats a crap setting and nowhere near the oc I was getting on the other 2 boards.

i guess its possible the CPU is damaged but wouldnt it have failed Prime95 if that was the case? I can run prime at stock speeds so I feel that the CPU is probably OK... there are just so many settings in the DFI bios I probably have something set wrong.. are there any good guides for that bios? especially the memory settings?

Not really up todate on the new DFI's...but if your memory is failing on memtest86...using the DOS version...not the windows version...then I would stop looking any farther and replace that ram...odds are big time it is the memory giving you the issues...not the MB or any bios settings

any recommendations for 2x 1gb sticks that will have decent timings at ~225mhz?

Not really...but what are you using your system for that would require you to have to need 2G's...or is this more of a want issue ...

hehe want=need in my world
no seriously with all the crap I run at startup by the time I finish booting on my 1Gig system my RAM is 75% used. So it uses a lot of swap when running photoshop or even just browsing the web .. I need 2gigs

I have RMAd my gigaram sticks and they said they are going to be sending me some pc4200 1gig sticks to test out so hopefully they will run decent on this board which has proven very finicky so far even when running the latest beta OskarWu BIOS'es......

also make sure to unplug any USB devices , if running TCCD run at 3.1v has seen some good and if you can enter bios setup some ppl have seen some help in disabling their floppy drive , also what you can do is jus install on stick of ram for your windows install in dimm # 2.
