This is a work related problem. We have a P4C800 Deluxe that we want to add a Maxtor 300 GB sata 7200 to. The system already has 2 IDE DVD writers and two 120 GB IBM IDE drives, pluss 3 USB storage devices. I've tried plugging the sata drive into Sata1 and Sata 2. There is no evidence that the system knows the drive is there. It doesn't show up in either the bios or in Winxp.
I know the drive works, I put into my own MSI NEO4 box and it showed up immediately in both the bios and in winxp. I've studied the manual, but can't see what it is that I need to do. We only want this single sata drive on the system. Help.
