Apple you make my blood boil

So a friend tries to send me a video to watch. And of course it is .mov, so I have to download quicktime on my freshly formatted computer

I go to apple.com to get it and find out the ONLY possible way to get the damn codec to play a .mov file is if I also install iTunes. In my opinion that is criminal. If I dont want to install stupid iTunes I should not be forced to.

So as of now I am boycotting apple. I have always hated them and always will because they do crap like this all the time. I have had enough. The only thing I have ever gotten from them is a GIANT pain in the rear end.

Ummm... maybe you weren't looking hard enough...

On the Quicktime Downloads page... right underneath language, there a 3 links. Click the 3rd link which says "Quicktime Standalone Installer".

If you still cannot find it... click here. You gotta know what you're looking for sometimes

Quicktime? Realplayer? Pah stupid software, get the Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative codecs http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...lternative.cfm
they use media player 6 for no hassle no bloatware Real & Quicktime playback and are much better than the 'real thing'

Really...can't you just install the codec and play it from wmp?

//Edit: Hate to break it to you, but you boycotting their free software isn't going to do much good.

you don't have to install itunes to play a .mov, only quicktime. you didn't look well enough, it has an option install a package with or without itunes

did anyone try to download the standalone? The link does not work. At least it does not work for me.

And quicktime alternative has never worked. I dont trust it either. 19megs for a single codec?? You wish. I will pass thank you.

standalone link works fine for me. if the auto download doesnt work, theres a link below that goes right to the exe.

i like how with quicktime you can open multiple videos at once. it also seems more streamlined than wmp. opening mp3s and movies inside a browser window are also nice.

MOV sucks, it just does. I really can't stand that we have 14,000 billion different forms of video. I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with MPG and AVI?? I don't download videos in MOV format, or RL(or whatever RealPlayer uses) I don't have either of those programs and I'm not going to get them. If you can't rip a video to MPG or AVI then you should expect to not have anyone watch it. I'm going to make my own video program with my own stupid format just so everybody has to try and find the codec after they download a video my idiotic format. And then, when nobody can find it they'll create forums, which will eat bandwidth.

I think this may have been my most rantingist post evAr. But I'm so right, and I know everybody agrees, unless they work for Apple or something.

I don't hate Apple per se, I hate anyone that creates a whole new format(not even talking about computers) that just makes everything more difficult. Customary(opposed to metric) measuring system, ten million movie formats. Shoe sizes that don't even have a median(!!!) the list goes on and on. The Ipod is awesome, and so are their mega LCD monitors.

All I know is that I installed itunes when I installed quicktime and don't regret it at all. itunes is the BEST music player out there hands down. Beats Windows media player 10, beats winamp, beats dbaudio player, beats music match, beats real player. Only thing it can't rip mp3s. But that is what windows media player is for, also movies. Windows media player is to bloated to be used as a music player.
