What's the best G.Skill memory to get? LE, LA, LC? What is the main difference between them that warrants the price increases? Is it really worth having a more expensive one?

LE's for the 2x512, LA's for the 2x256

The timings are speed binned to tighter timings on higher models.

If you are running a 270+ FSB/HTT, yes. Well, maybe. It's up to you if the timings are worth it or not.

IMO, yes it is...but expensive doesnt always mean the best...because the most expensive set of the Skills is not the best...talking about the 1G LA's...

The key thing is...running higher FSB/HT at 1:1 timings...with lower latency...

With my set of LC's...running a divider like everyone is talking about is a waste for me since I can run the same timings at 225 (275/5:6) as I can at 275 1:1...

LE = Best 1G DC kit
LA = Best 512DC Kit (5-2-2-2)

To avoid a few questions...

the LA 1G kits are PC4800 rated but at 2T...while the LE's are PC4400 rated...but can ran past PC4800 settings if your motherboard and CPU can handle those settings...

The LA 512DC kits are PC3200/PC4800 rated at 1T...there are 2 sets of the LA 512's...the PC3200 5-2-2-2 set is the best...these sets have been know to run at DDR700+ with 2.9V...the PC3200 6-3-3-2 is DDR550 rated...not DDR600 (PC4800)...

Some people have gotten the newer LE's with the TCCD 440 chips...these chips are the same ones that are on the 5-2-2-2 LA 512DC kits...if you are lucky enough to recieve a LE set with the 440's on them...then odds are you will be able to hit 300+HT at 1:1 if your MSI will let you...

Now...Most NEO2's can not hit 300HT 1:1...my wall is 298...memory passes at 8-4-4-2.5 but at 299 when hitting 40%...12k+ errors occur...neither chaning timings or voltage help...matter of fact if I raise the voltage to 2.85v...I get around 16K errors...this is not a memory issue, but either a CPU memory controller issue (which is highly unlikely when using memtest68+) or the more obvious issue...the motherboard itself...

A few other members with Skills and the NEO hit the same wall at the same HT with different ranges of CPU's...

glock19owner is right in that your probably not gonna get much of a price/performance increase if you go with LA 1GB kit versus the LE. Both hit 300 HTT easy and scaled up from there at 1t.

They were both 440 TCCD so it looks like if you can get some 440 TCCD LE's you should do fine.

I hit 315HTT on the LA's, but not sure if that was the wall. The LE's hit a wall at 310HTT.

The chip marking of my TCCD 4400 LE is 431. How does it compare to 440?

2.5-3-3-7 1T to 303 MHz 2.8 V
2.5-4-4-8 1T to 318 MHz 2.8 V
3-5-5-10 1T to 350 MHz 2.8 V

Those are some pretty good results, been keeping up with your thread and it was very informative. Your using 2x256 modules i think from reading your thread on your testing.

I dont think my LE or LA (2x512) sticks can ever hit those speeds. I'm just gald they were able to hit 300 on 1T since they really aren't rated to perfom at 1t. See my thread for my results - Link

The one thing i noticed with these 440 TCCD is that they respond better to more volts. The sweet spot seems to be 2.9v.

Not sure if i've hit the max on the LA's at 1t, but i might try to see what the wall is for them later in my testing.

I'd love to test this memory on your CPU. My cpu has a decent memory controller, but does not even come close to clocking as high as your cpu.

I’m currently running my 512x2 LE's with 431 TCCD's at 275 2.5-3-3-10 1t 2.65v
I haven't really tried higher yet since I found the voltage sweet spot for these things. They seem to hate voltage, at 2.6 and 2.65 they will run memtest forever, at 2.70-2.75 they will get 1 or 2 errors after about 5 hours and at 2.80-2.85 they get a couple dozen errors in the first pass. This is all at 275 btw.

The G.Skill memory seem to scale really well on these DFI boards. I'm amazed by the results that hitechjb1 was able to get them on his DFI board.

Does 440 stand for 4.4 ns chip, and 431 stands for 4.31 ns chip.

Acutally i think they stand for production week so the 431 is older than 437 and 440 TCCD. Lately most G.Skill modules should be 440TCCD

This is slowly being taken care of as I type...this is more of a motherboard issue then a memory issue

I personally prefer Mushkin's Level 2 Black. Its *far* cheaper and I get teh same results as the guy above.
