Hmmmm.
It depends on if the things is standards-compliant would be my guess.

Just about every piece of hardware I have tried that complies to whatever industry standard exists for that component type works fine in linux.

Unfortunately, most of the cheap stuff is NOT compliant. Anything that states that it requires a specific version of windows ONLY often has non-compliant drivers...
I'd call it a crapshoot.
