Hello, I have a freind that has his own website and is trying to submit it to a search engine, and I am not too familiar with doing that.

Is there some place you actually have to submit it to?

I know if you put meta tags at the top of the files, doesn't that help with it? Is it as simple as just adding meta tags and the bots come along and automatically list it?

Thanks. :)

You will submit it here:

http://www.google.com/addurl.html

You can also find information directly from the source here:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

There are details to optimization here:

http://www.seopapers.com/?source=inettoolbar

Perhaps pay particular attention to these:

http://www.seopapers.com/article/204
http://www.seopapers.com/article/183

I would break it down for you, however I can't see much reason to reinvent the wheel, and the sources of those documents were almost certainly more expert in this field than I am. I can assert that all of those links are more useful than the majority of junk you will find around the net on the topic of SEO.

I was supposed to send that information to a professor who requested it last semester, months ago. Still haven't gotten to it yet. :D Holla at yo' boy!
