New Laptop w/ Serial Port?

Just looking for a little help. I have a friend looking for a new laptop that has a serial port.

He's into serious "overclocking" (racing) on his motorcycle and some of the computers onboard require a serial port to download the data and allow changes to be made.

He's not exactly computer literate, so I'd like to find something with a serial port built in. Also looking for large screen and good battery life. It will probably only be used for the bike, so it doesn't need to be top of the line.

I've been and will continue to look online, any help is appreciated.

All the Dell laptops I've been buying have had a 9 pin serial port as standard equipment. They do not, however, come with PS/2 ports or a parallel port.

I guess I would just buy the laptop that suits his needs and then grab a USB to serial port adapter. I have seen them all over the place - shouldnt be too hard to find.

Thanks all.

Slack - Any model numbers? I've looked at the dell site and don't see any with serial ports.

Ultimately I may have to get a USB adapter. I was hoping to keep it simple with a builtin port. Less stuff to lose, no drivers to install, etc. Adapters can break get lost, etc.

The Acer Aspire 13xx series laptops have serial ports. Not sure about newer ones.

Hmm, you're right. The newest laptop I just got in doesn't have a serial port. My 8600 does fortunately, since I need it to program equipment.

Oh well, the USB to serial converter will work too.
