iv got a 20gig 4200 and a 40gig 5400 drive
i just totalled my car so i need to sell 1 of the above
im currently using the 20gig and it works pretty well. i havent had a chance to plug the 40 giger in.
so what's the difference in power consumption, performance boost ext. ?

power - probably not much of a difference between the two.
speed - the 5400 will probably be a little faster and you would probably notice it.

The move from 4200 to 5400 is considerable, and you would definetly notice.

Noise varies greatly depending on drive make and model - generally 4200rpm drives will be quieter than 5400, though the difference may or may not be noticeable. This is largely also decided by how old or new the drive is - drives that were designed longer ago are generally louder than drives designed more recently, considering drives that have the same rotational velocity.

well. both drives were manufactured in 2003 and this one's silent :D

my ITX system has a 4200 drive, and if i could 1 thing about it, it would be the HDD.
4200 is SLOW, you will notice it.
