I'm sure it would run, but why in the heck would you put such a fast card into such a slow system?

i am loving this PC and i did several single upgrades in the past...
V3 3000
GF2 GTS
GF3 ti 200
GF4 ti4400
moved from K7 1G to 2,2G barton...
now something new should be fine for grafics!

i tested a new 6800 and had always over 60frames in doom3 highest settings
so the system is not slow but it was to unstable in 3D due to high current/driver
issues...

You have to understand what the AGP specs are before you do that.

The link below gives you a brief introduction on how AGP works and a compatiblity chart.

http://www.xfxforce.com/articles/pdf...%20article.pdf

This should help you in the long run.

this does not help me much cause what type cards are now available?

ithink that the right actual card could run in the board. any suggestions?

i do not want to buy a 9800pro now... if the 6600gt will not work in that board
then i have to go for a new board and ram grrrr

Your motherboard has an AGP 2.0 4X slot that has 1.5 voltage. As long as your system has 128MB or more of memory and a 300 watt or higher power supply it should work fine.

i have tested with hte 6800 and the big 460 enermax but did not work. perhaps the board is on limit due to the enormous currents from video and cpu...

Based on what I heard, a Radeon 9800 could require even more power.

Believe it or not, gotten wording that a Radeon X800 consumes less power than a Radeon 9800!

Maybe you should get a Radeon X800 non-Pro.

I suggest get a new board before or even maybe after the graphics card. I went from a KT333 to a nForce2 (no other part changes), went like a rocket after that! The 6600GT is a awesome card, I put one in a friends P4 not long ago, If I were to upgrand my video card, the 6600GT would be my choise at the moment.

Agreed. However every once in a while they have great deals on 6800GT/U cards. Last month Fry's Outpost.com briefly had some BFG 6800U AGP cards for $350 after $50 rebate. Heck $400 ain't bad for that card. I would have pulled the trigger except my wife said no to $400 out of pocket but yes to $250 for an XFX 6600GT & Zalman VF700-Cu vga cooler. $225 after my $25 rebate.

according to newer cards...wait a year and the money is away...so i go normally for the little cheaper ones. when i startred with pc´s nobody talked about 4XAA and 8XAF. and without this really cheaper cards do the job quite well.

perhaps i have to go for new parts but i am not willing to for now. i think i get a
6600gt first and try it out. if it does not then i get a new psu and ram cause i
have a lanparty u a here...(nf2)

no pc ppart is for long. the power is away as soon as new architekture arrives...
so in 1 year there will be really faster ones... but i am really satisfied to still work with my old kt7.

If you are intent on upgrading your video now and your subsystems later, you must realize that this videocard will only hold you over in the interim until you replace your mobo, cpu etc. AGP is dead...
As for your exisiting mobo, as long as it supports AGP 2.0 spec (4X) you shouldn't have any issues.

yes the mobo is agp 2.0 i think. but i do not definitly know. but most manufacturers do not care that much to standards i think... the videocard should keep me somewhat up to date for around one year. then i plan to do something totally new.

btx and newer amd perhaps...

If you want to remain reasonably up to date for one year I'd recommend a 6600GT or a 6800nu for your setup. Anything more is a waste of money as your system will severely bottleneck it...

AGP is dead to the enthusiast, but to the normal person it still has life. Most of my friends still regard the FX5200 as a decent card, so I think AGP has plently of life left in it for the basic computer owner. However for people like us (apart from me because being 16, my income doesn't allow it) AGP will be over and done with soon and we'll be hailing the new king that is PCI-E.
