Exclamation Need Help Upgrading Father's Lappy

Looking for a new CPU. Is this a S478? or S370? or S479? Not sure if this is P4 based or P3 based

it looks pIII based because the P4 ones where like 2ghz+

it would also have at least sse2 if it was p4 based

so yo could prob rule out s478 & s479

According to Intel :This processor is in the 370-pin Flip Clip Pin Grid Array (FC-PGA2) package
From here: http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/rese...rts/183499.htm

With respect to note 5.

I'm going out on a limb and will disagree Skab; I say it's socket 478. Being a mobile product, I'll wager that it uses the same S478 BGA/PPGA package as the P///-M tualatin core CPU in my lappy.

Intel page for one particular "S" coded Celeron 1200 Mobile CPU: http://processorfinder.intel.com/scr...sp?sSpec=SL63Z

If Sentential were to d/l Intel's CPU Processor Frequency ID Utility HERE, we could nail down exactly what it is....

JUst reinstalled that on my lappy too....I coulda swore it pulled a bit more data/ID info than it does....

Si Soft Sandra gives a few more clues, particularly the "Package" line entry. If Sandra lists yours as a Mobile, with this package type, I'd say it's definitely S478.

If so, one might think the Tualatin cored P///-M (up to 1.26GHz) would drop right in, perhaps needing a BIOS flash, perhaps not.
