What does your mom do with a computer?? Just surf, play solitaire, run a CS server . A used socket A system could do just fine for just surfing and solitaire. A Sempron is not 64 bit but being the same 754 pin any mobo that runs 754 AMD64s will work. Is this a ground up or are there some carry over pieces from a previous computer? I'ld look for something with onboard ...everything ...sound, VGA, ethernet, etc to save costs on components. What about a monitor? Windows..I assume Linux is out but maybe not.

1. AMD Mobile Barton 2400+. These will clock to 2.2 Ghz easily, which is a more than acceptable speed given her needs.

2. 2x512 sticks of Corsair/Kingston/Mushkin Value Ram. 1GB goodness at half the cost!

3. BIOSTAR M7NCD PRO. A cost-effective, yet very reliable board. I would have recommended the Shuttle AN35N, but they seem to be unavailable.
