Budget radiator? "oil cooler, heater core"

Yeah I think I will give water colling a go this weekend but have a couple question for those who have played this game for some time.

I am on a budget and have the option avaiable for a radiator.

1.)External oil cooler
2.)Heater core
3.)External transmition cooler

Has anybody worked with these before?

Does it help to mount the radiator outside the computer case?

And finally, Dose anyone sell just a submersiable "with 3 pin power" pump and resivor?

transmission coolers are good and a new one only costs about $35


but if you have a junk yard around you should look there for a heater core

as for mounting

it doesnt realy matter where you mount it as long as you have good airflow

Yeah have a brother and cousin who run a P-car shop so I know I have a heater core laying around.

Now dose anyone know of a pump that has a 3pin end so I can hook it up to the power supply?

Yeah look for a heater core.

1. They are usually smaller than oil and tranny coolers if you get them from a compact car. Something Ford Escort-ish or Toyota Corrolla-ish.

2. External tranny and oil coolers are usually not the way to go for a couple of reasons. Most impacts are front end impacts and the coolers are easily cracked or damaged. The fact that they are external to the car means that they get exposure to road salt and acid rain and they can be corroded. Corrosion = future leaks.

3. Most times tranny and oil coolers are painted. 99% of the time, heaters cores are bare metal. Because they aren't exposed. And the paint will hamper better heat transfer.

I wouldnt say 99% of trans coolers are painted

I just picked a 10"x5"x3/8" one that was $35 at souther audo supply


nothing fancy, however it is aluminum, no paint though

HEATER CORES

I am using a heater core out of an isuzu all copper extra row of tubes 4 wide works great i had 1 laying around but u can pick up used ones for 5-10$ one thing to be sure and do is leak test it before u take it home if u are in a cold climate they tend to leak if they get frozen look for a fairly new arrival to the yard! imports ussually have all copper cores a plus for u. or let me know and i will srounge 1 up for ya post haste.
