Anyone tred upsidedown?

Well I was staring at my computer today and thought it would look cool to put the mbo back bplate on the other side of ase and flip the mobo over so the CPU is at bottom and PCI clots at top. Any one done this kinda pointless mod?

I'v done it with server cases on my job so the door is on the right side due to location restricrions. Keeps from having to pull the case out to service it.

My last three personal builds have all been that way.
Depending on your motherboard the cabling can be much neater and the video card is now positioned rationally (hot side up).

i love it, it makes so much more sense this way. Heatsources are much more logically placed, cabling is usually neater, my power supply is in view now, and most importantly, the window is on the same side of my comp as i am. (whos bright idea was it to stick a window on the left when you have to have the comp on the left, to use the door?)

I did that with my Sonata, and turned the computer with the opening side toward the front of the desk (I don't use the cd drive too much). Peel off the adhesive rubber feet and stick them on the new bottom.
It just made working on the computer easier, swapping memory and such.
The cabling doesn't really get easier, all the components are still in the same place....

yep, that's what i've done with my antec... p160, is it?... anyways, the only thing is that i had to make back fan blow in and forward out. which is not too bad, really, gave me a chance to rig a duct for the cpu.

it sounds like you are flipping the whole case, what i (and i think Gunnerman) are talking about is leaving the outside of the case, the harddrive and cddrive racks the way they are, and rotating the back panel 180 degrees, so that the motherboard mounts on the opposite side of the case. In relation to all the drives then, the motherboard has changed postition.

That won't work. The connectors would be on the inside of the case, and even if you rotated and flipped it there is nothing to mount it to on that side and the PCI set screws would be on the wrong side. Not to mention the I/O panel would not line up to the case hole. Got to flip the hole case and turn the drives upside down. Also some cases wont look right, It's got to be a cheap symetrictral case.

here, maybe these can clear something up. I mounted the motherboard panel upside down on the opposite side of normal, as far up as possible instead of down. Then i rotated the back panel with all the PCI slots, and I/O panel, 180 degrees in the front/rear axis. I took me about 1 hour to do, yet makes my case so much nicer to look at and work in.

no, its called flipping an ATX board upside down...its still ATX. BTX is a board that looks upside down, but it really isnt, its how it was made.

theres a very small difference between what ive don and BTX, but there is a difference. With BTX, my mobo would still have the pci slots above the cpu, basically it would look the same, except that it would still be on the right side. In BTX also the power supply is above the mobo (usually), whereas here it is underneath. IMO BTX is one of the worst "innovations" in a long time. A completely new motherboard, case and to some extent PSU standard for what? Basically the same as what we already have, but mirrored. I have accomplished basically the same thing without upgrading anything.

pointless mod, but still fun to see, changes things up a little. so what are you doing to move the mobo, are you removeing the mobo panel and welding it on the other side upside down, not really following how this is done

for me i just drilled the rivets out, lined it op on the other side and drilled new rivet holes and put it back together. I also had to slighty trim the tray to make room for the tabs that hold my front bezel on.
