My computer is about 2-3 weeks old. Had no problems with the build and no problems with anything except when I finally installed iTunes, when I run it it randomly about 50% of the time will flash to a blue screen for a second then restart. This is incredibly frustrating and I have no idea what to do. I have tried reinstalling and get the same problem. Any ideas?

I'm using xp pro sp2. System is in sig.

I should also mention that I have tried reinstalling iTunes, reseting CMOS, and flashed to the latest release BIOS (was using a beta) with no results.

Update: The problem happens 100% of the time after a normal restart, but iTunes loads fine after recovering from a crash. Makes no sense at all :(

Open Event Viewer (in order to access the error logs, and check for any critical errors)...Start | Run | Type eventvwr.msc and click OK | Highlight "Application" and "System" independently in the LH pane | Right click any error message(s) (critical errors are in Red), and select "Properties" | Write down a couple of the latest critical error messages (especially related to iTunes) exactly as they appear under the "Description" field, and post them in this thread.

Also, open the System Information tool by typing msinfo32 in the Run box | Expand "Components" | Highlight "Problem Devices", and look for any problems that might be listed there.

Thanks redduc. Here's the long, long list:

Application - Only the first application warning occured yesterday, which is the day that I tried everything and started/crashed iTunes multiple times.

9 times yesterday afternoon around noon, the first session of attempts to solve the problem. 3 times later around 4pm during the second session of attempts to fix the problem.. I am not sure if this happened during the crash or when it rebooted after the crash which allowed me to open iTunes. I can find out if it is relevant

Only problem device is an ethernet controller that I turned off (mobo has 2) because I don't use it and the "not connected" tray icon was annoying me:

Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller PCI\VEN_11AB&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_100A15BD&REV_13\4&13699180&0&5048 This device is disabled.

Thanks again for the help. I have no idea how you would pick up anything out of that stuff I posted but if you figure out what is wrong I will have your children. Just to reemphasize because it seems important, is that itunes works fine after bootup post-crash. However if I reboot again, itunes will crash it.

The D1 (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) errors you're receiving..."Error code 100000d1, parameter1 00000038, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 aaede7da" relate to faulty RAM, or a damaged device driver. You may also have a damaged Paging File, in which case you may want to try this...open System Properties | "Advanced" tab | Under Performance, click Settings | "Advanced" tab | Under Virtual Memory, click Change | Click No paging file | OK your way out of System Properties (make sure to click the "Set" button first), and reboot.

Re-open System Properties | "Advanced" tab | Under Performance, click Settings | "Advanced" tab | Under Virtual Memory, click Change | Click System managed size, then click the "Set" button again | OK your way out of System Properties, and reboot.

Check your RAM using Memtest86+ v1.51, available from the following site...

http://www.memtest.org ...You want the "Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS - Win) V1.51".

http://www.memtest.org

The "Event Source: TrueVector Service" errors you're receiving are related to ZoneAlarm. You may want to try uninstalling ZA...by using the /clean switch. Right click on the "Uninstall ZoneAlarm Pro" option in your Start menu, and select "Properties" | In the "Target" field, you'll need to add a space and then /clean to the end...it should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

Click Apply and then click OK | Open ZA and turn off the "Load on boot" option | Reboot and then run the uninstaller (the one you changed the shortcut for). This will get rid of ZA for you, including all the related Registry keys. In order to manually uninstall ZA, you can follow the steps at the following ZA support site...

http://nh2.nohold.net/noHoldCust25/Prod_1/Articles55646/CompleteUninstallNonNT.html

...although I would suggest trying the /clean switch option, instead of manually trying to remove it from your system.

If you haven't already, install the latest chipset drivers for your board. You can find the latest nVidia v5.10 of the Unified Driver package at the following site...

Wow, that's some thorough knowledge. Thanks a lot. Memtest ran fine. The blue screens didn't stop after I did all of what you suggested so I completely removed itunes/quicktime/ipod updater and installed an older itunes version and it works fine.
