Video card. The 9500 does not support DX9. You have enough RAM for almost any game. A 9800 pro is a nice step up and can be had for close to $150.

Actually, it does support DX9, but it may be a bit slow side running dx9. I would try to save $200 or so and maybe get a 6600GT.

I'm not sure exactly what your bottleneck would be inbetween those two, but if it was your memory that was bottlenecking, you could probably just turn up the graphics without much performance hit.

You could try some tests, like set the graphics at a particular resolution at the highest then the lowest and see the fps difference. If there is a big difference, then it's probably the vid card, but if not, then it may just be the memory.

your ram should be fine, but since ram prices are dropping, you should consider getting at least ddr400. it seems your video card is a little outdated, but it shouldnt give you really bad frames. which games are you having problems with and how many frames are you getting?

source/d3 ... i try to use 1027x768 but with d3 its a big no no and source it works but not when there alot of player models present. I think its the vid card personally .. i tried messing with the ram and the diff i saw was longer loading time not much effect on fps.

My bad. I thought the 9600 was the first ATI card with DX9 support but I was wrong. Still, the video card is the weak link here.

I upgraded my video card from a Radeon 8500LE 64MB to a GeForce 6800GT 128MB, and yes, there was a big improvement in my framerates that made games more playable; however, now I am being severely limited by CPU. What it means is that if you spend $300+ on a new video card, don't expect to get your money's worth out of it until you also upgrade your processor. Both are limiting factors in games.

run a video test at 640 x 480 you will get you max framrate for your cpu then compare it to your normal video setting ie (1024 x 768 or 800 x 600 ) if there is a wide range then a new card will help if the range is narrow you will need a new cpu and and posible vid card

memory-vid cards and games

I didn't pick-up which games you are planning on running. If we knew this it would help us decide what recommendation to make.Toms Hardeware has a very
good vid card comparission that will help you decide where you stand with your vid card. The 9500pro stacks up pretty well with its competors but it isn't the card for many of the new FPS games but it does well on many games.(http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...04/index.html).
After taking Outlaw Wizards advice and studing Toms vid card review you should know where you stand.
If your running XP or XPpro it takes a lot of memory because a lot of it is tied up in the operating system and computer..I would recommend at least 512m of memory just for the computer and more for gamimg.Do you have access to more memory or know someone you could borrow some memory to run a test with because it looks to me that you might be a little light to play many of the games that are out there but I am betting that Ouwlaw Wizards test will show you your vid card is pushing its limits.Good Luck
