assuming that you have not formatted your drive yet, try the following
1) right click on my computer and go to 'manage'
2) go to 'storage'
3) and then go to 'disk management'
4) locate the hard drive in question and right click on it
5) and then select format
hope this helps

maybe a little more info would help

If it just needed formatting it would still show up in explorer. It would just pop a warning when you tried to open it. Something to the effect of "The volume has not been formatted. format now?". My guess is that the drive has just not been initialized and assigned a drive letter. Follow the steps that furious outlined to reach disk management. Locate your new volume in the listings. It should pop a notification when you enter disk management if the drive has not been initialized. Follow the on screen prompts to initialize the drive. After it's been initialized and formatted you will need to assign it a drive letter to be seen in windoze. Good luck!!!

J.

You may have either the power cable or ide cable not plugged in correctly.
