Free Program to recover formated/deleted files

I was playing with laptop and when I rebooted it said operating system missing. so I reinstalled windows again and offcours files that were on the hard drive are deleted, I know I can recover them with some program but what program is the question? any suggestions?

I use Search & Recover 2 www.iolo.com the first three files recovered are free, as a demo.
