Question Aqward hardware issues linux/windows...

i have 2 IDE harddrives.

1. 80GB MAXTOR with XP-SP2 and all my stuff.
2. 160GB Samsung with Xandros OCE, ( or whatever distro i feel like toying with)

XP boots only if the drive is set to master with the jumper, and the master end of the cable is used.

Linux boots only if the drive is set to master with the jumper and the master end of the cable is used.

is there a way to simplify this madness? - theres gotta be an easier way...
oh, and ive only got 1 pin jumper..
tia.

Um yeah, set it up as a simple master/slave setup and install lilo or grub to handle the booting process.

what linux distro is it??

On my comp (i partitioned an 80GB drive with a 60GB windows, 1GB exchange, and the rest as Kanotix)... I first installed windows, and then I installed Kanotix, and it defaults to using GRUB as a bootloader... I've heard Lilo isn't as good as GRUB, so I chose GRUB

mmmkay, its Xandros OCE, and it looks like master/slave is gonna be the only way, but i have very limeted experience with linux, and this configuration makes it all the more tricky...leads to a few more clear questions-
which drive as slave and which as master? what to set in BIOS? which one to do GRUB on once i wrap my head around it?
thanks for showing me what im actually up against here folks.
