Old Upgrade Question (just out of curiosity)

I am fixing a very old computer that a friend wants to use to learn Linux on. The board is a socket 7 PT-7502 (i think it was made by Pine Computers). Does anyone know what a 30 pin parallel socket labelled 'VRM 1' (a white IDE/Floppy like conector with two fastening clips) it's next to the CPU socket.

is it for an ide pci/isa card to talk to the chipset? what chip is it?
