what DVD drive is the most quiet?

I want a cheap DVD drive, already have a RW so this one can be read only. Which brand/model is the most quiet?

I don't know about cheap, but I have a Plextor and a Lite-On drive. The Plextor drive is quieter when it reads and burns than the Lite-On drive. However, the Plextor drive cost around $119.

I have a Plextor and Pioneer that are silent, my g/f has a Sony that makes a little noise, and my file server has an LG that is deafening.

Yeah, my burner is a loud LG and I dont like using it for watching DVDs or gaming. I'm heading over to silentpcreview now.

My liteon (ROM) makes noise when you first access the DVD, but then is almost silent. Im pretty happy with it. And the best part was that it was only $35!

There is software you can use (Nero ?drivespeed? in one) to limit the speed at which your drive will spin. If you're otherwise happy with your drive you might want to look at this option.

I'd just check out the reviews(such as those found on newegg) and see what others say.

Sometimes those newegg reviews are bogus. Plextor drives are known to be quiet, but take a look at silentpcreview.com.
