good day
im an idiot when it comes to gfx cards
basically i got a free agp 4x/8x slot

currently using a gf4 mx4000 64mb pci - cheaper :D

my mate recommended a 9800xt but thats something like $250...i cant afford that!!

can you guys recommend anything reasonably good, not oc-ing, $150-$200

There is the 6600gt or the x700pro, the 9800pro, 6800LE and 6800nu. The 6800nu is the fastest one, but it goes for around $250 but lately I've seen going for as low $200. Don't know how much it costs in the UK though. In my opinion it goes like this 9800pro<X700pro<6600gt<6800LE<6800nu, not too sure though. There is also the x800 but I'm not sure how it performs, but it's costs more then $200.

the 6600 is actually faster than a 9800

Not from my experiences, the plain 6600gt is just a bit slower then the 9800pro, looking at my old benches running my 9800pro with a 2200+ at 2.0ghz, and 512mb of ram running at 166mhz scored 39,000 in aquamark and 5900 in 3dmark03 while the plain 6600 score 37,00 aqua and 5700 3dmarks03 on a A64 at 2.0ghz 1gb of ram running at 200mhz.

coool
its either a 6600 or 9800 pro
or 9800xt..if i can afford it :D

Don't by the XT just buy a pro and flash it to an XT. Also if you can spend $200 I would look around for one of the $200 6800nu sales. as it has a chance of unlocking to a neutered 6800gt with 16pipes and 6vertex shaders.

Also the 6600 is definetly a better buy when you compare it and the 9800 performance in newer games and benchmarks.

to be honest i didnt know you could unlock and o/c a gfx
only heard about that a few days ago :D

shouldnt it be the other way around.....ur saying the 9800pro is the best there....

should be like this X800XL>6800GT>6800>6800LE>6600GT>9800PRO

Come on dude you should no better then to base a graphics card buy benchmark's :p , ATI Cards Love Benchmarks! but put the 9800XT/PRO 7/10 the 6600GT is the winner!

REMBER NEVER JUDGE A CARD BY BENCHMARKS, BUT BY IN GAME PERFORMANCE!

just had a word with a mate, he bought a 6800GT a few months ago, $570 at the time, now its around $380
i think

whats your UK budget in UK money? dollars aint helping - give me a £ figure and il have a hunt for some bargains for you

hehe ok
£150
since i could be after a 6800, but 6600GT is first choice, then a 6800, then a 6800gt

cheers

um, if you can you want the 6800!
yeah...cos im using the scales of gfx :D
"X800XL>6800GT>6800>6800LE>6600GT>9800PRO"

6800 is £180 ish
6600gt is £130

the 6800 does sound tasty :D
dabs looks cheap

right for £150 your not gonna get a 6800 card - £200 is more the mark for a crappy 6800le. But for your cash there are a few good cards available to you -

XFX - http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=603810
Almost anything on the page - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/6600AGP_Series.html
GAINWARD!!! - http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=304638&cks=PRL
256mb 6600 non GT - http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?sku=306430&cks=PRL

thats about it im afraid - for your budget youl geta 6600gt and nowt higher

I'd go for the 6200 at <$125 or a plain 6600@<$150. I don't know what the guy is talking about with the 9800pro being faster than a 6600gt. That's true only in DX8 games. The 6200 is faster than the 9800pro in dx9 games. Wel, unless you go stupid and watercool/pelt cool the 9800
