Prettiest OS?

Hey guys...
Just a few minutes ago, I decided to go looking around at what the diffrent OSs looked like. I couldn't find many pictures of anything, and then realizing your existance, I decided to direct my search here.

So... Put pictures of your "alternative" OS up! I wanna see what the diffrent OSs look like! Oh yeah... From what I've seen, BeOS looks REALLY REALLY NICE!! Oppinions on what you think the best looking OS is are welcome too!

Actually, linux and KDE can look as nice as you want to- they are 1000% customizable. You can even change the shape of windows. Go to kde.themes.org for more info. And the real beuty is the shell prompt

Yep, that's full-blown *nix. The console on the right is running a compiled ettercap that's monitoring my network and the console on the left is running "top" on my fileserver.

Notice the cool transparency on the terminal windows.

Wow.... Apple has been doing nice things with their OS since I last had a look.... It sure looks nice! All the schools have Dells now, and I haven't seen a running Mac in forever!

C'mon! Only two people's desktops?? Surely you all have computers. And I hope you ALL aren't running Windows.....

DOn't worry about schools and Dells. Once educational institutions wise up to the true cost of maintenance on Windows based computers they'll be back to Macs. We've got 1000+ Macs and about 50 Dells here in my District.

Here's another pic of Mac OS X 10.1. Notice the transparent dock on the left side, there's 3 layers to this dock, as noted by the tabs. Each layer becomes visible when the tab is clicked on.

You'll notice the file sharing control panel, I can run an ftp server, samba server, and allow ssh connections. This is built into the OS. Also, apache 1.3.20 is built in so at one click of a button I can be running a powerful web server.

Not too bad for a laptop. That's why I love it when people rip on Macs, they usually have NO idea they can be this powerful.

Yeah, if OSX were useable on PC architecture, I'd be using it. Alternatively, If I could do a homebuilt mac for something approaching the cost of a homebuilt pc i'd do it. My problem with macs has never been their power or functionality. Rather it's been with the level of value on the hardware end and the availability of software. Have things gotten better in those areas?

Well, those are two excellent points to consider. The G4 towers start at $1,700. Figure some more ram (512mb for around $50) and you've got a nice machine. You do get a fair bit of software for your dollars. That become more evident as you move up in models, especially the ones with the dvd-r drives. You get iDVD, which allows burning of video dvd's you can play in your home. You get iTunes which can handle audio cd burning and be an mp3 jukebox, you get iMovie which allows you to hook up a minidv camcorder and make movies. I use that one all the time, it's really cool. So yes, they are still expensive, but they offer a lot more product for the money.

What software are you looking for? Microsoft makes office for the Mac, a lot of Unix apps are being ported or are ported over. I use my Mac all day long and there really isn't an application I've been needing except morpheus.

I just installed Mandrake 8.1, it will look better in time, because themes.org doesn't have their sawfish themes up right now.

Correct me if I am wrong but last I had heard OSX was available to run on a PC since it is using a Linux Kernel. That was their latest thing I think they call it oscar or some sort. I will do some digging and find out if I am wrong or not.

The kernel, Darwin, is available for X86, but I don't think the OS X gui is.
