Ok, I want to play some CSS.

Specs...
3.06Ghz Prescott
Gefore 5200Go 64mbs of ram.
1 Gig of RAM
60GB 5400RPM HDD (recently formated)

I get 33.06FPS in the HL2 video card stress test.

Every graphics option in the ingame menu is turned off or to the lowest.

When I play the game though, it just sucks. Its not bad, until there are other people moving around, then the frame rate plummets, and then sucking ensues.

So is there any tweaks for me to do to get this to not suck.

I cant overclock it, cause its a laptop either.

Would a 7200RPM drive help ingame preformance or just load times?

It would only affect load times. Turn off Verticle Sync if possible. Set smoke to lowest settings. If your not planning to enter leagues on this. Set resolution to 800x600 or lower /w 16bit.

Leagues Disallow 16bit and u HAVe to have 32bit

that video card is pretty bad, and the slow hd isnt helping either.

try loading the game up using dx8.1 or dx8

enter "-dxlevel 81" under load options for the game. try dx8 after that and see if that helps.

the source engine automatically uses DX8 mode for the FX series... :bang head
even though they are "dx9" (but it was horribly implemented)

I found the gameplay pretty acceptable on my 5160 once I had everything turned down. I don't remember any big slowdowns like that.

Maybe try rolling back to an older driver? 66.xx or 61.xx perhaps?
