Starter as switch?

I am trying to figure out how to use a all purpose starter (like small car starter) to turn on a comp. I swear there was a mod at one time where someone did it. I looked but could not find it. Anyone have any idea how to wire it?

You mean a starter motor itself? Or just the ignition switch?

Yeah, there was a mod where someone else did it. I remember it. Don't know where it is though. I bet if you went to a car shop and told them what you wanted to do, they could tell you where to wire what.

Aha!

All you need is a keyswitch

Older automotive keyswitches have atleast one momentary contact (for the starter motor) and then atleast two ON positions and the obvious OFF position. You can order keyswitches from Parts Express, Allelectronics, and Mouser. A momentary will be preferable since it won't stay in the ON position unless you hold it there. Holding down you power button for more than 6 seconds forces an instant shutdown.

Yeah he's not really banned. He posted 2 days ago.
You could always get ahold of him through AIM
