Intel systems are the video encoding king. AMD generally has a slight edge with gaming, but as long as you have a good vid card, Intel does pretty good at gaming too. I would recommend one of the 6XX series Intel P-4 with 2M cache for video work. With the right mobo and good cooling, a 4 gig overclock is fairly easy.

why not dual-core cpu ? i dont see a reason to get single cpu for video encoding...a dual system will almost always perform better than any available single cpu video/audio encoding.

dual core would be best for video editing. Second choice would be one of the Intels. They do better in video editing than the AMDs but amd does better with gaming.

Im not so sure thats true due to the pressie having sse3 and a extra 512k L2 cache, I was under the impression that the pressie is better in real world media work.

not only that, but the 6xx's have 2mb of cache compared to the northwoods 512kb. a 3.0c will generally top out at 3.4-3.8, while the 6xx would be good for 3.8-4.2 on good air cooling. no question that the prescott would whoop any northwood.
