I have three duallies. Do I need them? No. But damn, they fly and I don't consider it overkill at all. Sure, you need multithreaded programs for them to really shine but most programs are multithreaded. If you're a Quake player you're in for a treat.

I did most of my searching through Pricewatch.com. Axion Technologies has the best price on a decent dually board I have as well...the ECS D6VAA. $69.00 shipped. Newegg.com has the VP6 at a good price as well. That's where I bought mine from.

Yes a dual cpu motherboard is worth every cent. However buying one from TigerDirect is not. Get a good quality board. Abit VP-6 is the top of this list and can be had for about $135 at compuplus.com.

So what do ya'll think of the Asus CUV4X-D ? I can get one for $227 (Cost + 2% Canadian dollars). I had planned on getting it earlier, then Tyan released their dual AMD board/s, so now i'm kinda up in the air about things.

The AMD benchmarks that I have seen for SMP has not impressed me at all. They are too slow.

The Asus is a good board. Almost as fast as the ABIT VP-6 and almost as good of an overclocker as the VP-6. I personally like the benefits of the VP-6. IDE RAID, better bios, fan headers that can take a 7000RPM Delta and not fry, easy to replace chipset heatsink. And Abit is really the only company that has figured out how to properly use four memory slots without sacrificing stability.

Jon, you like that ECS board?

House: This is the only way! Sometimes solutions are NP complete and there's nothing anyone can do about it! Foreman, sneak into the physics department and reroute their servers to ours, we need the extra processors if we don't want this equation to go quadratic on us. Chase, patch the memory leak and install Matlab 9.3.
Chase: Shouldn't we be using Mathematica for potentially asymptotic functions?
House: When I want your opinion, I'll do an affine transformation to get it. I'm off to see Cuddy. Those parabolic eigenvalues of hers must be good for something.

It's a pretty good board. Nothing spectacular and not the greatest overclocker as far as options go, but it has enough. I'm not sorry I didn't get something else by any means, although I wouldn't get one for a main rig.

For $69 shipped, it's excellent.
