Dead Deal

Well I figured there were some people that missed out on the 298$ deal well this is the same exact system but for a little more.

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/pedge_sc420?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

it starts as a 2.53 cellery but if you goto customize its a free upgrade to P4 2.8 and a 10$ for 40-80gig HDD. comes with the 256MB ram and no OS of course

For me shipping added ~20 bucks to the deal so ~350 for a P4 2.8 HT system is still a dang good deal IMO. Figured id make its own thread in case no one reads the old one, for links about this system (the SC420) see the following links

and despite potential reviews in those threads mine doesnt run very loud at all and its been folding since 2 hours after i opened the box ;)

and a note for those who arent actually gonna read the links above. the PCI-E slot needs to be modified to accept modern video cards, also the 6xxx series cards have had thge most problems but X900 ATI cards work just fine in the modified slot (the slot is 8x). There have been thoeries that the issue is power consumption that the nVidias dont like the weak power the PSU in this system provides but on that side YMMV

Well done pik4chu. It is only a tiny price adjustment from the deal that was posted earlier.

I got mine up and running with no problems on windows XP. I only needed the boxed CD's for the network driver.

Very quiet, and a heavy solid case too. No regrets here.
