Like many others my Northbridge fan makes alot of noise. Is it safe to remove the fan and heatsink and replace this with a passive Zalman?

I know it's been done before, but I'm more interested in the possible risks of damaging the actual chip. I have seen threads that talk about doing this but no-one has ever mentioned how.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've swapped out coolers on northbridge chips many times. Shouldn't be a problem. Just be careful with what you're doing, that's all. Before mounting the new cooler, be sure to clean the chip well with something like alcohol too.
