i need some good 2.0 speakers for my setup. before anyone recommends a 5.1 or 7.1 system, i'd like to point out that i have a sub already and i plan on keeping it. here are some speakers that i was looking at:

http://www.mdofpc.com/onlinestore/p...spire-spk680-20-speaker-system&cName=speakers
now i know the rating shown is max output, which i'm never actually going to get, but i'm guessing that if the pmpo is 1000W then the RMS should be around 200W. good guess or bad? i was also looking at these which got some nice reviews:

any other suggestions for good 2.0 speakers? i'm willing to pay up to $150 for a set (i saw some nice m-audio audio monitors for about that price), but i'm willing to flex that limit if necessary.

EDIT: i found these speakers, which look quite good too

The Aspire set look very gimmicky, anyone that uses a PMPO rating is a joke to me, I doubt it even puts out 20w RMS, let alone 200w.

Klipsch and Altec Lansing make good speakers. Logitech is also a very good brand, but I'm not sure they make a good 2.0 setup. The M-Audio setup also looks promising. What are you looking for? sql? spl? a mix of both? It's hard to shop for speakers online as they each sounds a little different, and you don't know that till you get them home. If you can go someplace local and listen to a set, I'd advice it.

sorry, not well versed enough on speakers to know what spl and sql stand for. i think i edited before i noticed your reply, what do you think of the sony speakers?

i know this is what everyone says..and you prolly dont want to even go this route, but it's a thought

I had gotten an amp/receiver off ebay for 20 shipped, and could pick up decent speakers from ebay or circuitcity online for 30-100 bucks

It would sound better most likely, and you could upgrade amp or speakers whenever you want

this would be a slighty better than the M-Audio monitors. They come with RCA's input, so depending on your audio card.

roughly the same price as the M-audio one. But IMO the samson has more low extension, louder too. You gotta hear the samson 65a monitors.

Drop by your local sam ash or music shop. They have many on demo in the desktop audio editing area.

the Resolv 65a is probably out of my range...$299.99 after discount was the best i could find. the 40a looks good though. i'm afraid there's no local sam ash anywhere around here, i live in a third world country. i'm supposed to go up to the states in late july though, so i might be able to listen to some there. if i can find a lower price for the 65a i'll go with those. from what i can tell, these are definately better than the sony speakers and reasonably better than any of the other speakers i've posted. anyone have a good deal on the 65a? :D

There is also the samson 65 without the amplifer, roughly 150 cheaper than the 65A's. (A) for amplfied, BTW. is something to consider if you have an external amp.

Happy Hunting.

I'm guessing by SPL he meant Sound pressure level, which would usually relate to just plain loud speakers, however can relate to many different things although he meant loudness in this scenario I believe, or SQL for Sound Quality meaning giving up a certain level of loudness for improved clarity.

i'm afraid i don't have an amp so i'd have to get the 40a or the 65a. i'm trying to convince myself to get the 65a ;)
