When I use Internet Explorer or AOL to search Google, it has this awful lag time of about 30 seconds, it just started doing this the other month. Once the lag time is over it comes up with an irrelevant search that just links me to about 5-6 other search engines, all with the same search as mine. Lets say I want to look up OCForums, I type it in Google and wait 30 seconds (there are usually about two pop ups) and then it has a list that says "Search Yahoo for OCForums" then down a few lines it says "Search the Websters Dictionary for OCForums" and so on, sometimes completely irrelevant! It doesn't happen on Fire fox or Mozilla Version 1.7 and the computer is only a year or so old, not enough to make a difference. I will upload some pictures later, I downloaded the Google toolbar but that only eliminates the pop ups. I tried the Google Forums but no response. Please Help!!

Maybe a file is corrupted in I.E. and/or AOL. You should try reinstalling AOL, and just use an alternative web browser, unless you can fiddle around with the internet options and get it to work.

What is wrong with using FireFox? Its smaller, faster, more secure, and I'm sure lots of other things better than IE/AOL. I don't think pictures or screenshots are really needed but if you want to they may contain something we could use.

AOL uses IE within itself, and then goes through aol servers to get to webpages. thats why VPN's dont work with AOL..... and sinse your saying that stuff about the searches, i might suspect something hi-jacking the browser possibly..... just 2¢ though

I agree, I think something is hijacking your browser. I was fixing my cousin's laptop right and it had tons of malware on it. If you googled something like lets say "giants" (she is a baseball fan) it would come up with all these wierd funky sites that had tons of bad stuf fon it and would try to sell her stuff and direct her to other search engines. When I did it on my clean comp it found what it normally should have. So I highly believe something is hijacking your browser. Try doing the standard adaware and spybot scans, if that doesn't fix it you may need to post a hijack this log.

FireFox is good but IE is needed. As for you problam, to me it sounds like a browser hijack. Slowness is from you going through the proxie that jacked you. Run MS antispyware, hijackthi, bazooka, spybot, and adware see if anything shows up. These are often hard to detect though thanks to the code so you may also reinstall IE.

You could also try netstat to see if a proxy shows up and google it.

TalRW, that seems like the same thing that I have, I have Hijack This and should I post the log on here or on a different thread? I run on Firefox, but sometimes I just use AOL. I have tried the netstat -no in command prompt but never thought of trying the netstat command. Thank you, and I will get back.

Here is a Hijack This file, it is long!

ya, I would scan for spyware. Like others said, I think something is highjacking your browser, Which is old news for IE :-/

does AOL use netscape now? i think it might.

oh, and that log looks like youve got your work cut out for you.

not an expert in this area, but no matter how you use the internet, or what browser you use, please take some time to learn from this, and educate yourself and any users of this computer in properly taking care of the internet security type stuff. if not, any help the community can provide is just a temporary solution.
that means perpetual nightmare, in case my language was not strong enough.

best of luck.

You have a bunch of spyware and other goodies.

1. Run Spybot S&D 1.4
2. Run Adaware 1.6
3. housecall.trendmicro.com = Scan for Viruses
4. WinsockXP Fix*
5. IEFix*
6. CWShredder
7. DLL Compare
8. CCleaner

Your HJT log is too long to sort thru, but more then 60% of what you found should be removed. I would also tweak MSCONFIG as you have a lot of processes that boot with windows, as well as processes that dont need to run in the background.
