PSU for a new high end system.

Hey, im kind of on a budget and kind of not. Simple Question.

What would be a good psu to run G70 in SLI(lets assume it takes 25% more power than an NV40), and an FX55 San Diego clocked around 3Ghz?

I was hoping this would be able to do it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104934

I am running one of them in my current system now, and have had a great experience with it. If possible, I would want to use that psu because I know it runs well and has a great sleaving job.

Could that psu handle the above requirements? If not, do you know of a psu on newegg, within reasonable price, that could get the job done?

How about an Enermax noisetaker 600w SLI? It's certified by Nvidia for SLI, too.

You will need a 500W PSU at least 12V@34A according to the specs listed here.

So any of these choices would be great.

wait, so you are on a budget, while getting those extremely expensive parts, and then cheaping yourself on one of the most important parts of th computer? I don't get what you are doing.

I am trying to spend the least possible on a psu without getting a crappy one, if you know what I am saying.

I could very easilly afford a $200 psu, but that would cut into my new moniter's budget. See what I am saying? To put it simply, what is the cheapest psu out of the really good ones that would run the above mentioned system.

I was informed that the Fortron Bluestorm 500W was a high end psu, but I am not sure if it is enough for such a load.

You bought the top of the line everything and now you want to go cheap on a PSU, doesn't make sense. Get a PC Power & Cooling 510 SLi.

According to those specs the Powerstream 600 is NOT acceptable. A single card wants 26A and in SLI they require 34A. The Powerstream 600 has 38A, but it's on two seperate rails, the highest of which is only 20A so there's no way it would work. I have a Powerstream 600 so I have its specs in my head, but I don't know the other PSUs well enough to say which would work and which wouldn't without doing some research. If I had to guess if any of the listed PSUs were appropriate for this system I'd say the PC P&C SLI ones were, but I'd still go read the specs before I bought one. That said, I'm sure Nvidia will indicate which PSUs are appropriate with the G70 the same as they did with the other SLI cards--and when you're spending that kind of money in the first place, there's no good reason to not get a proper PSU.

Note my comment on rails in the previous post. I have a feeling that you're going to be spending quite a bit more than $200 on a PSU. Think about it, those two cards (needing 34A) are using up more power than most complete systems and you still have to power the CPU, hard drives, optical drives, fans, etc. That is going to require one powerful PSU and it isn't going to be cheap.

A question for those more experienced: The graphics cards and the motherboard/CPU have to be on one rail right? What would be involved in setting up dual PSUs to power a system like this? Can it even be done?

So you would cripple the heart of a system with a cheap underpowered PSU so that when it blew up and took half your system with it. You will have a larger blank screen to stare at.

<Shakes head> This is the absolute last part in a PC you should skimp on. Especially with the setup you are building.

Question on new power requirments

I have the links to a couple of power requirment tables (like everyone here probably does). However I haven't seen any new tables based on the new power hungry cpu's and (dual) sli systems.Does anyone have a link to one of these.
Thanks

Those specs are refering to a whole system. The card itself does not draw 26A. So anyone of the ones I listed would be fine. The Enermax 535w is the cherapest I would suggest and is $83 here.

I stand corrected, but I'll bet they're still low-balling those specs and I definately wouldn't get any PSU that they haven't at least certified to work with the 6800 ultras in SLI. Those cards are going to want a lot of power to perform at their best, especially if they're overclocked.

It's enough for one, but two in SLI would probably need the FSP550-60PLG instead.
