Someone Stop Me keep 3000+ or Intel 820?

I'm thinking of selling my current Rig (AMD) for a Intel 820 and PCI-E VC and such. Though im afraid to OC the 820 because I've heard about how hot they run and how they aren't great for games, but then again the Video Card is really responsible for games in todays games, anyone have any opinions?

The difference is about 500 dollars to my wallet im guessing so im trying to find whether its really worth it, I'll be getting a 6800GT to go with it.

That is really a very bad idea. What you have right now is more than adequate. If anything just upgrade the vcard and not a whole new setup.

man knows his stuff.

no real point in upgrading for not that huge of a performance increase. i say wait alittle while, then when faster and better is out and you comp isnt handling it anymore, upgrade. for now, keep it. unless ofcourse money is not an issue, then upgrade as much as your heart desires.

What you need to realize is that S939 will never have DDR2. AMD plans to move to an entirely new socket in mid 2006 called M2. Only this will have DDR2.

Whether you know it or not, S754 will live as long as S939 does. There is really no point to buying anything as I have stated before.

if you are in despereate need for a cpu that can handle multitasking, then i think you made the right move.

There are PCIe mobos for S754. Both Epox, Chaintech, ECS, (I think) MSI, & (I think) Foxxcon have PCIe S754 mobos. Most of them use the NF4 chipset & one is a K8T890 & another is an ATI chipset.

I you really want a bit more performance, why not just upgrade your graphics card? That A64 3000 can handle itself fine.

My next system is definitely going to be dial core, definitely going to be 64 bit, and definitely going to be Intel. The AMD's are starting to lose their advantage once again. I am waiting a bit though as the tech is not yet perfected. There WILL be better motherboards, there WILL be better SLI support (I am not considering PCIe as I think SLI will be the better standard), and there will be better CPU's. The Intel dual core line is in it's infancy, and good things will come to those who wait. That is not a guess, that is a given, and I've been told that from people who work at different manufacturers or people who are supported by them. That's all i can say about that.

uh... you can't have SLI WITHOUT PCI-E. so, (not to burst your bubble) you will be considering pci-e... twice.

and gunman, i second antichrist's suggestion, your 3000 will hold it's own allday when coupled with a good video card.

Yea..I hope I did a right move..I'm not that satisfied with my current multitasking performance..and as for the original poster..if you only game..then your 3000+ will perform better than the Pentium D dual core...I will not upgrade unelss you multi-task a lot like I do....
