System freezes in memtest86...

...if I decide to run it @ 2,5 - 3 - 3 - 11 (see sig) and 220 FSB. Ususaly, errors occured first if I went to hard on the timmings or FSB. Well, not this time. Running it in 220 simply freezes it, no errors, just a random freeze (does first couple of tests).

Now, I suspect the motherboard requireing more voltage. Currently its running 1.8 V and both NB and SB are pretty cool (on air) so I wonder if I could try doing 2.0 V or would I risk damaging it that way? Or is it RAM after all (kinda doubt it but I aint no expert)?

Please forgive me if I placed this under wrong section - still not sure which one is giving me a hard time, but since its happening in Memtest I decided to put it here.

Thanx a lot!

Do you have an option to adjust RAM voltage? If so, try that. If not, perhaps look into a volt mod if you really want to push some extra juice through those DIMMs

I do...2.9V max Im affrraid . So it could be RAM after all? Ram needing more voltage that is?

Thanx

Thats possible. Can you reduce the multiplier and see if the FSB will go any higher? See if FSB is limiting you? Or loosen timings and see if it works.

Strange -> first I loosened the timmings just a bit (2,5 - 4 - 4 - 11) and it worked okay until 2nd loop when I got a single error (test 8 I believe). So I tried another trick (I once read an old post suggesting to do so, cant remember where exactly) and lowered Vdim to 2.7 V instead of 2.9. So far it proves its the way to go - second loop just finished and no errors so far (1 hour to be exact). Is that normal or is it just coincidence?

If you just burned this image of memtest try doing it again. Sometimes when you get memtest off the net it can corrupt and it causes memtest to freezeup rather than actually test the memory and show errors

Thanx for the advice - will try that. As an update - 221 FSB on 2,5 - 3 - 3 - 11 and 2.7 V doing good > loop 5 just started.

...and thats about it - no matter what I do (loosen timings, raise voltage, both) I get an error around loop 4 or sooner. I'll just stick to 221 and 2.7V.

Ok, this is strange now. I left it running for 20 hours and it only returned two errors, both on test 8 (I think loop 1 and loop 11). No errors otherwise. What would that mean? Am I suposed to back up a bit or could this realy mean a program error?

Thanx for replies people!
