iVanderpool & iAMT

"iVanderpool & iAMT"

Anyone know if iAMT or iVanderpool features in the i633 P4's will need a compatible mobo or are these features mere bios and cpu related?

I have a Abit AA8XE (i925 based) and is compatibile with 6xx series.

Hello and to the forums

The iVanderpool (Virtualization) will be a set of hardware enhancements such as HT is thus Vanderpool is a hardware technology implying that your system gets split into several parts that work independently and use the same resources of the PC.

I would say that such enhancements will need i945- and i955X- at a minimum.

The iAMT (Active Management Technology) describes unique interfaces within chipset, network controllers and microprocessors that enable Intel AMT to connect with compatible management and security software, and utilize embedded monitoring and control capabilities in the client platform and do so remotely allowing IT to complete system integral events without having local administration which is at the moment necessary.

I would say that such enhancements will need i945- and i955X- at a minimum.

thx.

yeah I was thinking the same, but my mobo is said to be 6xx compatible. I haven't heard of any boards saying they are Vanderpool or AMT compliant, so hopefully it will be a bios update and a new CPU.

For those that don't know the 633 is the Vanderpool & AMT version fo the P4 630. It should be out very soon.

In fact http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2445 is saying the Pentium 4 633 is out in 1stQ of 2006, so a while off.

I'm talking too soon.

That is what virtualization means, that it supports execution of multiple guest operating systems with focus on performance and resource isolation.
