AIM password change

I recently reformatted my hard drive and when i downloaded aim again it said I was typing in the wrong password. which I know is correct. I either had a virus that changed it or a hacker that did so. I can't have my password sent to my email because when i made that acount i had aol and i since have changed to adelphia ... Does anyone have any ideas ??? thanks

Erm, you should still have access to your aol email address. Check for caplocks, and I really doubt a hacker would change your p/w, because its not worth anything.

Well, my old email address is the same as my AIM screen name so I don't know the password.

typically what can happen, is even though AIM and AOL are 2 different software's they can pull the same screen name from the same pool of names, i.e. someone on AOL get's kicked off by someone that signs on with that same screen name on AIM. its a small glitch in the system.

more than likely if you cancelled your aol account and then your aim account started to say invalid password. its b/c when your aol account went into in-active state it also took the aim account with it.

to rectify this situation now they are now converting the screen names to an @aim.com account to stop the password issues and etc that comes with cancelling the aol account and it affecting the aim account also, so the screen name will be somewhat the same instead of @aol.com it'll be @aim.com so in a way if you think about it. it'll be pulling the screen names from a different pool of names.

its kinda hard to explain when typing.....

best thing you can do to make sure your using the same exact password is to use the hash trick by copying your old hash to a txt file and putting it someplace, then putting it back when you go to use aim again, takes a little bit of registry proficiency but it's sort of ironic that your password gets hacked at the same time you format.

AOL messed up big time and cost people a lot of their aim names.
