EDIT:
ASPIRE X-Dreamer II ATXB4KLW-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W Power Supply

CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939

I'm building a comp for my brother(his use is for homework, internet, games) on a budget so I decided I'm going to overclock to save money. I'm new to overclocking so I'm just learning. Those are the main parts I'm going to buy and I'm wondering is that good enough and will be stable to overclock with? and what should I upgrade or change?

I would advise against MSI motherboards, they are not what they used to be.
For around the same price the Chaintech VNF4 is very nice.
What about other components? PSU, VGA etc..

I'm giving him my x300 video card and I'm upgrading to 6600gt. 420w comes with case.

what about the ram? is that good enough?

You might check out some OCZ memory.

I'm not fond of Corsair Value Select memory personally.

and since you are going for some really good parts, why skimp on the memory?

what would you recommend and what adjustment can I still make on my selection? I'm trying to get equal or better performance at a lower price possible and that's what I came out with. So any adjustment would be great.

$74.oo @ ata.com for OCZ PC3500 512MB 433Mhz DDR CAS2.5 (COPPER HEATSINK)OCZ433512PF - PERFORMANCE SERIES

ya kinda gotta look around some.

Steve OCZ (forum name) might be able to make a better recomendation if ya drop him a pm.

(he works for OCZ too) :D

Look around & look at peeps sigs & see what they have.
or check the CPU database & see if memory is listed (not sure)

I would reccomend getting a new PSU, unadquite PSU will lead to instabillity and eventually premature death of components.
This is the best value system you can get IMO:
OCZ Value Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) 80.99$
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3000BPBOX 146$
CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
88$
Fujiplus FP-66GTPX128 Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail 155$ (10$ MIR)
Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-430 430W Power Supply 69.99$
Total: 540$ before shipping.
This is what you should aim for IMO, anything below that is equilent to a socket A system.

is there a cheaper PSU I can buy? because I'm trying to build this computer low price as possible cause i want to use the money left over for my computer upgrades.

anything under ~$45 has a definate chance of pooping out. How many amps on the 12v (for the 420w PSU)?

it doesn't say but they upgrade it from 350w

I might just stick with stock psu and see how it does.
Also I'm wondering does he really need 1 gb? will 512mb do?

What games does he like to play?

a lot of the newer games like the more memory, but yes, 512 will do a decent job.

you can always get another 512 later.

mainly couter-strike so 512 will be enough.

Final Specs:
CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

ASPIRE X-Dreamer II ATXB4KLW-BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W Power Supply

OCZ Value Series 512MB (2 x 256MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700)
Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939

eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

So am I good to go now?
