Hurricanes

I live in Florida, and I was wondering how many hurricanes you think will blow threw this state this season, we already have one so far..

Another tropical wave is developing already...with some deep convection and signs of organization...moving westerly at 10 to 15 mph. (The satellite image I speak of may be viewed Tropical ITCZ here.)

My grandma lives in Florida, and she's already lost her house through Jeanne, which we're rebuilding as we speak, so I have a vested interest in what happens as well.

I will put my money on at least 6 hurricanes/tropical storms hitting florida this year. Last year there were 4 in a very short period and this year there have already been 2 and the hurricane season is not even in full swing yet.

yup, it just started and people are evacuating, god I don't want it to be August, it sucks!

It is rainy and gloomy! Grrr..I hate it!

Jeanne wasn't bad for me, neither was Charley, but Francis sucked because we left. But the most damage was a tiny tree in are backyard that fell. What sucked a lot was no power, and it your food goes to waist. But you get out of school. :-D

I think we lost power for like 2 days with Frances, because we were so sick of being where we were, that we went back, and the hurricane was moving very slow, so it was over Florida on a Saturday, and still there on the Sunday that we left. It was kind of creepy, going back. You see, gas stations with the tanks knocked down, and the overhangs destroyed. For, Jeanne I went to my dad's house and he lost power, but my mom didn't.

If you get fewer than 6 i'd be suprised. My parents used to live in Fort Walton Beach, i'm glad they moved. They live 2 hours outside of Atlanta now near Macon.

It's almost kind of funny to me, I lived in Tampa from 1973 until 1981 and then lived in FT Walton Beach in 82-83. In that whole time I can only remember 2 hurricanes (Hugo and David). Now Flordia seems to be grtting slammed buy at least 1 every year.

As a foot note My sister, aunt and 4 cousins live in the Tampa area.

We are off to a bad starts as this year is a record with 4 named storms so far this early in the season. Last year, 15 named storms formed in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne, which all hammered us here in Fl.

My guess is we make it to Rita

2005 Tropical Cyclone Names:
Arlene
Bret
Cindy
Dennis
Emily
Franklin
Gert
Harvey
Irene
Jose
Katrina
Lee
Maria
Nate
Ophelia
Philippe
Rita
Stan
Tammy
Vince
Wilma

My thoughts and prayers go out to those in the Pensacola/ Alabama area facing Dennis's wrath.

Thanks SSS, this is going to hit the coastline pretty hard..... we already have minor flooding in Montgomery right now and this is only the tip of the storm for us, it's going to be horrible for the people farther down south once it hits them.

I'm on call all weekend, both zach and I are lifeguards on the Air Force base near our house..... so we staff the shelters once the people start coming in from the hurricane if they need us. It's a 20 minute drive to the base, so I'm hoping that we're not needed to so we don't have to drive through the hurricane, but if we need to it's worth it to help those people out..... 500,000 people are evacuating out of Mobile and the coastline up to Montgomery right now, so I'm praying that they'll all make it here safely before the storm hits.

How's the weather in your area SSS?

I live on the east coast of Florida, and I think SSS lives on the west. The weather her is ok, it isn't very sunny, but it isn't raining. It was before, looks like they are going to get it bad up there.

SSS, thanks for that list. I am thinking Rita too :-D, I don't even know why we should start school, lol
