9600se !?

Ok, so I have this old dell in my basement from like 2002 that is ok for light gamin, its gota a 1.6 intel proc, 256 mb, and a mx440 at 4x all on a 400fsb. I my uncle got a new VGA and I asked to take his old Asus 9600se. Is this going to preform better stock the the mx440, can I OC this thing or flash it and make it a standard or 9600XT?

i think the 9600SE is pretty much a dog. No way to make it a 9600xt AFAIK. Not sure if it'll outperform an mx440 though.

A 9600 AFAIK is a crippled 9600 with lower clockspeeds. Not sure about pipes and memory bandwidth. Overclocked, it might beat an MX440.

9600XT= 500/600 clocks with 4 pipes at 128-bit (RV360 core)
9600SE= 325/365 clocks with 4 pipes at 64-bit (RV350 core)

I don't think any amount of overclocking will make the SE perform even near the XT. I would take the 9600 over the 440 though. The 9600 will perform better in *most* games, and it will also do DX9.
