Heres the deal. I just built my frist comp and it came out sweet. Now my sister wants one but she dont have the money atm. She ask me if I could build one for $350. I was like "hell no!" but then i was thinking...Maybe u can build a decent rig for gaming for $350-400. I say 400 cause I think thats what she will end up spending.

So is $350-400 enough to build just the tower? It just has to play World of Warcraft and surf the net. I would prefer AMD thx :p

best bet is to buy a 300 dollar dell with an AGP slot and put in a video card. You'd be surpised the deals you can get from dell, head over to www.fatwallet.com and see.

*edit* oh and if you bought all used parts it might be possible...let me see here:
case/psu 50
mobo/cpu/ram 125 that would get ya a 2500+ and 512 PC2700 or PC3200 I would think...and the mobo
HDD 50 bucks for a 80+ easily
lets see that's 225
optical for 25
250 now
9700p or 9800np/p for 100
350...sooo yeah that would probably be a nice rig...maybe closer to 400 if you got a good mobo and PC3200.

i agree with brutaldrew. at those prices you can get a fairly nice (for the price) deal on a dell desktop. although, it would probably come with integrated graphics, so if you want to game on it then ajrettke has a pretty good setup going.

I'm selling a $350shipped over Anandtech with Thermaltake Xaser III...one sweet budget gaming rig...so yes, it's possible to build on that low.

Most dells that cheap dont have a agp slot. In a few minutes I put togather this rig, its not top of the line but pretty cheap and decently powerful.

Mobo=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130474($53)

Case/PSU=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811144026($56)
Ram=3200mushkin after rebate ($18)
HardDrive=160mb 7200 rpm also after rabtes ($50)
ok thats as detailed as I go, then just like 20 for a dvd drive, 30 for a heatsink, and 100 for the graphics card.
So around 412 bucks shipped. Though thats after rebates. So if she does not have the cash up front then this system will of course not work. With some work I am sure you could do it though. (got a 2.8 prescot with ram and a mobo and heatsink for 180) So with enough looking im sure you could do it.
