Is it true when someone says ati may just cancel their r520 and try to move their r580 forward a couple months? There wont be a point anymore with r520 if Nvidia is gonna release their successor to their 7800gtx.

^^ true and that could then allow ATI to gain the crown again with a 7800 Killer.

There's enough X800's out there in flavors ranging from SE to XTPE that there would be no need for a new "low end high end" card like the X750 in my opinion.

I don't really care how late it's gunna be out.. ATI isn't going out of business any time soon and I'll never be able to afford an X900 or whatever the hell they're gunna call it. So I'll stick with my X800XT

Is this the end of ATI as we know it? Is Big Red throwing in the towel? Hmmm, very interesting indeed.

Agreed.

I don't get these guys that say "OMG! ATI is behind with the r520! They are out of business!". They don't ONLY make high end cards. They did not cease manufacturing the x300s after they started making the x600s. The high end market is not the most important market.

Also, why are alot of people around here bandwagon jumpers? As soon as one company takes off you jump on their boat, saying that the other one sucks. Come on guys...

All my life, I have tried Nvidia. All my life their cards have sucked IMO. This is why I stick to ATI. Their good at RMAing things, they answer my questions, their cards aren't overheating power hungry monsters IMO, so I stick with them. In my opinion they are the better company. Not because they have the bestest products! not because they are 1337 for 6 months out of the year. Geez.

ATi is more dissapointing by the day. Crossfire was an utterly STUPID release. Why the hell are you going to release dual gpu technology and cards for that technology while your working on your new series of cards?! And not to mention the very generous price tag on their crossfire x850xtpe. For that price I can get a 7800gtx.

And here we are and the X900 series will come out god knows when.

I had quite a few ATI cards before this and I wish to continue with them. But I am losing faith in them. They are just to slow to release a product, and will get stomped by the ever increasing Jugernaut Nvidia.

ATI will have to release one hell of a price to performance card to stand up to Nvidia. Lets hope it happens. Since Nvidia is holding back the more budget oriented 7800 series, this is where ATI must strike first.

^^^ I'll always wait a little longer to get a GOOD card over getting an available card. I don't know about you, but I can't afford to buy a new videocard every 6 months! Sooo, if they wait an extra month or two...I get the chance to save some cash for the one I want!

ugh, but I don't want to buy a 7800gtx... From what I have seen with my firends 6600gt the ATI drivers are many times better.

I agree. Its worth the wait. My x800 pro does a great job as it is and I love it. IT plays BF2, HL2, Doom 3, etc, so why do I care that there is something bigger and better. Only reason I am upgrading soon is to transition from AGP, which I am not happy about...

For those that have been around long enough, there was a time when Nvidia was the better choice. That's when I had my GeForce 2 and GeForce 3 cards. They had the better driver updates. Then Nvidia slipped. ATI improved their driver updates and released the Radeon 9500. I waited and waited for Nvidia to catch up. They never did. So, I reluctantly switched to ATI and got a Radeon 9700 Pro followed by 9800 Pro, and now a X800 XT. The balance appears to be swinging the other way now. Looks like maybe I need to seriously look at Nvidia again. If the 7800 Ultra arrives while ATI is still jacking off and not releasing the X900 series, then they have lost another customer. I've been with Nvidia before and if they are the better company now, I'll go back. Sorry ATI.

I have a few problems believing what I'm reading here. Wouldn't you be under an NDA if you were indeed an OEM partner with ATi?

But regardless, I'm finding it harder to wait for this next generation of ATi cards. I'm really wanting to wait and give crossfire a shot with a couple of these heavy hitters, but I'm not particularly hung up on buying ATi. I'd be just as happy with Nvidia if I can get the same performance/value ratio. Nvidia is making it really, really hard not to buy one of those 7800s with all the deals they are tossing around. ATi has given us no solid indication of when these cards and motherboards are due out. Nothing more than a rebate offer that ends 9/29. Meaning that assuming they don't prolong the offer, we should be able to buy crossfire cards and motherboards by then. And if you read over the rebate, it doesn't even mention the next generation cards as being part of the rebate. That just seems a little foolish to me.Fact is, I've made up my mind while writing this post that I'm just going to buy my next system piece by piece, one week at a time, if ATi ain't up to par, I'm not waiting any longer than that.

Hello this is my first post BTW

I heard that the r520 core was going to kill the 7800 anyway. Its not all bad for ATi that the new Geforce was realesed first because now they know what they are up against and they know exactly what to do in order to beat it.

This could explain the delay as well.

The delay has to do with the shift in ATI corp.
ATI is more worried about upgrades for systems, meaning home theater systems and upgrading video for systems that are still running VGA.

Saf tech is doing all the work for ATI even the design of the high end cards.
ATI is doing now what NVIDIA has been doing for sometime.

So when talking to SAF they are in RND with the new card, the new card is more for the duel core set up. ATI got to conferrable with being on top.

And now this is why NVIDIA might and will take the gaming market again.
Do not get me wrong, I use ATI SAF in all my business systems.
But at this point SLI systems will be NVIDIA. Even the single systems will be NVIDIA 7800.

yup i agree, at least ati knows what they have to beat now if they want to reclaim the crown at the high end "bragging rights" portion of the graphics card market. could be interesting to see how close the performance is to a 7800gtx. btw to the forums!

No they have problems building something that will that will run at high speeds is one of the biggest reasons why they can't come out with something that takes down the 7800GTX.

I think it means no bbati cards any more, even though they were all made by sapphire anyway.
