Im considering a raid setup, only thing i dont have onboard controler so i dont have to go for a sata controler with raid... i want a raid 0 setup with 2x 74gb raptors to start with and raid 5 so can run setup with 3 drives when im willing to pay for an extra drive

when buying a controler whats the best thing to go for?
i know u can get cheep ones with raid ability.
and ones with own processors and cache on

i have looked at the Promise FTS150-SX4-M that has 64mb memory and uses sd-ram so i could expand it for 256mb, but it lacks an onboard cpu.

got any suggestions im willing to pay up to £150 maybe a bit more

The Promise SX4 has an onboard XOR processor. It's not as good as an LSI board, but it gets the job done. I have one if you have any specific questions about it. I like it.

I've only run mine with four drives, but rumor has it that it is painfully slow with three drives.
