I'm working on getting my parents to buy an Onkyo home theater. Right now I know for sure they will buy the HT-570s ( http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4026410 ). However, I want a better setup. I originally wanted the 770B... but my dad's like "There's NO way we're paying $109 freight shipping!" So, back to the drawing board.

Now I'm thinking about getting the TX-SR502B ( http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4014530 ) and a 5.1 speaker set as we really have no place to put a center rear speaker... Is it possible to use this reciever & a 5.1 speaker set without problems?

For the speaker set... Would these yamaha's be okay? ( http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4036254 ) I really need to keep this under $350 shipped. Thanks :)

Yes, it would be fine. You dont need a speaker connected to the outputs, for it to work. Those speakers won't do very much for you. They will work, but wont be great speakers. For a budget system, those choices will work.

**** YEAH!!! Just ordered the HT-770B! http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4007837

thanks for the suggestion, but I'm using optical. Infact, the cable I'm using is Acoustic Research Master Series which retails for $60 (but I paid $5).

The Home theater should be here tomorrow.

If you want to go cheap use some of these http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...74912-7003929?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846 (you may need a male to female or female to male one) and a pc speaker system, and possibly a rca y adapter and a additional sub and front speaker. The pc speaker system could be a 5.1, 4 channel, 6.1 or several 2 or 2.1 systems
That's not doing it cheap, that's doing it ghetto. Not only that, but you won't get surround sound at all, no matter what. It'll just be matrixed stereo.

I think he meant for me to buy 3 of those so that I could input 6 analog channels of audio into the reciever.

You sure? He specifically said you need a pc speaker system, so I assumed he meant connecting the reciever to pc speakers, which is both pointless and tacky.

yeah, you're right. I missed that...

Anyway, it didn't come today. Oh well, should be here tomorrow then :)
