deciding on a good psu

I can't decide which psu to get for my new machine. I was thinking about getting any of the following:

antec tp2 550w
ocz modstream 520w
ocz powerstream 520w
seasonic 600w

if these are questionable I might just splurge and get the pcp+c 510w. Gettting a really good psu is important and I don't care a lot about how expensive it is because if I spend a lot it'll be probably hold a longer lifetime than a lot of cheaper psus. this will be for a dfi nf4 ultra with a venice, 2 gigs of muskin blue and a 7800gtx. If there are any recommendations for a poor college student who just want to be able to play bf2 and overclock a 3000+ or 3200+ I'm all ears.

I'd go for the Seasonic S12-600. IMO the PCP&C is a waste of money.

The Seasonic gets great reviews. I just bought it from Case-mod for $135 shipped.

Out of those you have listed, the PowerStream520ADJ is probably the best.

It is a strong unit. 33a on the 12+ rail, 40a on the 5+, and 28a on the 3.3+.

There is nothing at all questionable about that unit. No need to double the price for the PC P&C.

The 520 is simply georgeous. It belongs in a OC'ers case, and to be honest, I hate to hide it that much even with a side window. The unit is sleeved, and has two molex lines that are sleeved and sheilded.

It has a 20/24 Pin ATX connector that can be used with either, and it als has a 4/8 pin Aux ATX plug. All the molexes are black, and connectors are gold.

It is quiet, runs cool at high OC's, and does exactly as it's advertised to do. I cannot say enough good things about that unit. it is a great PSU. I just can't believe they sell them for what they do. $139 from the egg just seems like a giveaway for what you get.

Take a look at the "Cyber Deals" forum. You can get a OCZ520ADJ for 99 bucks! That is a steal! Grab one up before that deal is gone.

Of those listed the powerstream or the seasonic would both do well for you.

I vote Seasonic. More efficient than any other fanned power supply, quieter than any other fanned power supply, and can drive large loads.

I worried about getting the powerstream 520 to use with a dfi lp ultra cuz I'll need two floppy drive connectors, one for the mobo and one for the drive. I can't tell if there are two of them in the pictures. Can someone verify how many floppy connectors it has? Thanks

Since when does the DFI Ultra D need floppy connectors?

19" auxiliary 4x12V connector (for dual CPU boards)
33 " cable with three 4-pin IDE drive connectors and one floppy drive power connector
27" cable with two 4-pin IDE drive connectors and one floppy drive power connector

Here's another option. Fortron has a solid reputation, I've even heard that they're the OEM that makes PC P&C supplies.

Any real rating at or above 500 watts should be more than enough for your needs, so the minor differences in wattage in what you're considering shouldn't matter. Go for stability, connections, fans, price, and other features.

I'm sure FSP has made some of the PCP&C supplies over the years, but I don't have any evidence their current products are FSP-produced or even FSP-based.

They're one known OEM for them, but PC P&C has been known to use several of the more reliable manufacturers out there. Two other known ones are Seasonic (some Silencers) and Win-Tact (the 850w monster and some Turbocools). Rumored OEM's are Zippy and Etasis - I'm not making much progress in confirming those two though.

Thanks for the info, guys. Looks especially like Seasonic is one emerging maker that I've missed, considering all the other mentions its gotten. Good stuff.

I'd recommend the Seasonic over everything else mentioned here. It's the quietest PSU around with the highest efficiency rating.

Hard not to like Seasonic - I would put them on par with Fortron for build quality (above OCZ/Topower and Antec/CWT), and they're about the most efficient and quiet units out there. Only issue I have with them is the price tag - still a little costly up here.

I'm pretty sure there's a floppy connector on there. It needs four power plugs, a 24 pin, a 4 pin pent 4, a 4 pin molex, and a 4 pin floppy near the 16x pci-x slot. Isn't that right, you have the mobo?

If you no question want the best PSU and can take the price tag buy the PC Power & Cooling 510.
