The x800GT seems to be a worthy competitor to the 6600GT, beating it with nice margins in almost every test.

I'm in the run for a new videocard..and this one looks like a very good candidate for barely 150$. (provided they make a 256MB AGP version!). If anyone finds news on how these perform vs. the x800XL, 9800XT and 6800, please let me know :) If these cards have some overclocking potential i might just get one..the price is nice.

Where are these nice margins you speak of? Honestly, it is an error to compare the 256MB variant to the 128MB 6600GT...like comparing apples to oranges.

Additionally, it is also my understanding that the x800GT will be priced almost $100 above the 6600GT. This also makes it very difficult to compare. I think I speak for many others when I say that the x800GT does have good performance, but it's too little, too late, and with too high of a price premium over the 6600GT.

The 6600GT is at 155$ currently, the x800GT is expected at 150$. In most tests the 128MB one will keep up or slightly outdo the 6600GT, while the 256MB version wins almost all.

The 128mb version of the X800GT is expected to cost around $135 while the 256mb one will be around $150. It looks like a winner to me for that price.

big red should have released this directly against the 6600gt. There would have been so much of these in desktops by now =( Ati always launches a trump, just too late.

They'll still sell a bunch of these cards even though they took so long to bring them to market. All the people who like ATI over nvidia but couldn't afford to pay the high price for top of the line at retail shops. And lets not forget the high priced and out dated 9800 series, my local shop is still trying to sell those things for $229+. I think alot of people will jump on these new low budget cards.

Why even get a x800gt when you can get a regular x800 that beats the crap out of the 6600GT for what only $180 -$200, or a 6800 for around the same price?

Because most people will buy what they can afford "right now" instead of saving for something better. Especially when it offers a very good bang for your buck.
