Mod much? CHEAP holesaws!

I wasn't sure if this is supposed to go in the "crazy stuff on ebay" thread, since I think most of those are stupid/gimmicks..

This seller has some cheap holesaws. I just won a 16 peice set with a nice case and all for $0.99 + $13 shipping. Not too bad. They've got some other 7 peice sets, figured fellow moders might like to get ahold of some cheap saws... probably not the best quality, but you can't argue for that price.

Have fun, when you try to cut metal with those!

They are made for wood, like balsa, or light weight pine, not metal. You'd even have fun cutting a hardwood, too.

Sounds like a wasted $14, to me.

(Yes, I have used these, my father had a set, about 30 years ago.)

I'll let you know how they turn out, They say for wood, alloy, and thin sheet metal. I guess I shouldn't have jumped on the ball, oh well.

Usually, if someone is making the profit on the shipping, the product isn't worth it. Just my observation.

it's not for metal, but if u need to cut anything else into round shape, this thing is the one, i have a set, i cut my case with a dremel, these things barely get through wood, let alone metal.

The description makes me think that they would do fine cutting through and aluminum case panel. Aluminum is a soft metal, and the stuff we use for computer cases can hardly be called thick. Use a generous amout of cutting oil when using them. That helps a lot. Let us know how it goes.

Circular saws intended for steel, like the stuff used in cases, will be labeled as "bi-metal" if I am remembering the term correctly. The sets that are not designated this way will actually be ground down smooth if used on hard metals.

The kit you bought should work on plexiglass and similar (cut these materials in reverse and slow so as to not "burn" them) materials, including soft woods.

I'm pretty sure your right about the term.

I wonder if these would work on my beast (3mm steel case) hehe

Get a BUNCH of them. Plan on about 4 or 5, for each hole.

It might just be cheaper to get a real holesaw, though.

A bi-metal blade, has 2 different types of steel, welded together. A thin strip with the teeth on it, is a strong high-speed steel, and the base is a lower strength, less brittle steel, that resists cracking a lot better. Most hacksaw blades are bi-metallic, as are most metal jigsaw blades.
