Cool that case!

Well I was bored and I decided to improve my cpu cooling, It appears it will be a hot week and a hot rest of the summer. I recently removed my heatsink from the cpu and now the thermal paste isnt working and I need to buy a new one.. Seeking a desperate temporary solution I looked at my computer and looked at the air conditioner right next to it. Hmmmm.... maybe, just maybe I can regulate the air from the air conditioner to the cpu intake fan....But what materials would I use? I have cardboard but I dont feel like bending it and you know how snotty cardboard is... When you want it to stay one shape it will slowly move around and yech...I dont like it... I couldnt think of anything to regulate my air. So I remebbered I had some ziploc freezer bags as well with some sandwich bags..I snatched that along with my handy scissors and tape and began the project. I am currently working on it right now I will provide before and after temps etc. What do you think?

Two hours and 2 rolls of tape later...

I finished! It was time consuming but I did it. Things are running a bit higher than my predictions. Almost 100% of the air from my air conditioner goes into my case, and leaks are very small, you can barley feel them on the back hand. Ill be sure to send some pics in a few moments!

I think you were better off with the cardboard. If you want to get this working with just stuff laying around the house you may not find much better. If you are willing to spend some cash then that opens up alot of other possibilities, such as using materials intended for ducting air.

EDIT:
I posted just as you were. I await the pics of your sandwich bag duct

Materials include Tap,ziploc bags, cup, and some cardboard. I think the bags work fine for me... wait untill I send the pictures you'll see how well they hold up.

hahaha, that is sweet, when i saw that used sandwich bags i thought that it wouldn't work very well. but with the positive pressure from ac unit it appears to be working great, what kind of temp drop are you seeing with the duct?

I reached a very nice 20C drop From 55 idle to 35 idle. Its a bare heatsink with no thermal paste and also its Stock heatsink so thats pretty good imo. Wewet

well, everyone has to start somewhere, i started with a 2100+ in and AT case, could only get 3 screws in the mobo (full size ATX board) but it worked. nice mod btw, would do the same mod myself but i don't have 20 feet worth of plastic bags (need them for lunch)

unless he does a big overclock the same amount of heat and cooler are going into the room, it just has more targeted cooling

I really enjoyed doing this...I would even enjoy it more if I could get a tutorial for this on the main site. I have seen people do some ducts in there cpu and such.. How do you get to post tutorials/reviews on the hints/tips section
