theres a high piched sound coming from my line-out and i dont know what the problem is. ive updated all audio drivers from nvidia but it's still there. the noise is barely noticeable at low volumes on speakers, but it's very noticeable and incredibly annoying when i plug in headphones. has anyone had this problem with this board? is there a problem with the onboard realtek sound?

A sound card should fix the problem, but nForce 2 chipsets had a problem with the southbridge overheating. So if you sink the SB the noise should go disappear or at least lessen.

would it be better to sink the southbridge or get a sound card? i dont have any extra sinks available and 1 would cost about half the price of a cheap sound card so... any recomendations?

A soundcard is pretty much a sure way to fix the problem while putting a heatsink on the southbridge is worth a try. The Chaintech AV-710 (which uses the VIA Envy24 HT-S chip) is a cheap soundcard that produces very very good sound in the 2-Channel Hi-Sample Rate, comparable to that of a card worth $100 (M-Audio Revolution 7.1 which uses the VIA Envy24 HT chip with a DAC chip that is a little better in 2-Channel Hi-Sample Rate). Here are some reviews:

I just got the Chaintech AV-710 and am very satisfied. Did I mention it is only $26 shipped from newegg.com?
